UN Human Rights: Detention of Imran Khan is Ilegal

A working group of international human rights (UN) declared imprisonment of Former Prime Minister Imran Khan illegal and arbitrary on Monday. Adding, Imran Khan's detention violates international law and he should be released immediately.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf had shared facts with working group of UN human rights.

Working Group on Arbitrary Detention:

The group is the part of United Nations Human Rights Council. The group investigates alleged cases of arbitrary detention by sending appeals to the concerned governments.

The investigative session of this group was conducted from March 18 to 27, 2024 regarding Imran Khan. The entire report was issued by the group on July 1, 2024.

Detention of Imran Khan is Illegal:

The report summarizes that the arrest of Former Prime Minister Imran Khan is arbitrary and illegal. Adding, Imran Khan should be released from the jail.

According to the report, there is no legal status of the Tosha khana and cipher cases against Imran Khan that are made politically to prevent him from competing in the political arena.

Referring to legal contradictions and irregularities in the various judicial activities of the head Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, the organization has said that Imran Khan has been detained cruelly.

The group concluded that Imran Khan was not detained on legal grounds. It seems that the purpose of doing so was to disqualify Imran Khan to prevent him from contesting the elections.
