A strong earthquake hit near Istanbul around noon.
Istanbul: A strong earthquake hit near Istanbul around noon. It particularly affected the western parts of the country. According to Turkish Disaster Management Authority (AFAD) the earthquake origin was in the Sea of Marmara, near Istanbul. The earthquake occurred 10 kilometers below the surface. The German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) measured its strength at 6.2 magnitude.
