Dr. Mahnoor Nasir Acid Attack Case

On Saturday, a hospital employee in Quetta Civil Hospital threw acid on Dr. Mahnoor Nasir. The attacker identifies as Humayun Shah was later killed by police.

The victim suffered burns on 13% of her body, including damage to eyes. According to sources, doctor's eyesight is intact and she is out of danger.

Dr. Mahnoor was airlifted to Karachi through air ambulance after being seriously injured in the attack. She will remain under special medical observation for 10 days and will remain in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for the first two days.

The attack took place between 12:00 and 12:30 pm within hospital premises. The Young Doctors Association (YDA) has blamed "poor security arrangements" and administrative negligence for the incident.

Dr. Mahnoor is post-graduate doctor of the surgery ward of the hospital. The accused targeted her while on duty. 

The accused belongs to Duki district in Balochistan. A case has been registered at the Civil Lines police station in Quetta. An FIR has been registered against accused Humayun Shah under section 336-B. 

The police said the accused was killed in a police encounter when authorities were trying to arrest him. The police asked the accused to surrender, but he opened fire on the police. The police retaliated and the accused was killed in the exchange of fire. Police recovered a pistol, four bullets and two shells from the scene. Authorities said investigations into all aspects of the case are ongoing.

Balochistan Health Minister Bakht Kakar said that the accused had been harassing the doctor for several months. He claimed that evidence of harassment was found in the messages recovered from the accused’s mobile phone. During the attack, Abdul Razzaq Tarakai, an employee of the Civil Hospital, was burnt while trying to save the female doctor. Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti spoke to Abdul Razzaq Tarakai on the phone and assured him that the Balochistan government would bear all the treatment expenses.
