SC full court hearing against denial of reserved seats


Islamabad: Today, the full bench of Supreme Court of Pakistan  has heard the Sunni Ittehad Council’s petition against the denial of reserved seats of the National Assembly for women as well as for minorities.


Supreme Court full bench comprises of Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, Munib Akhtar, Yahya Afridi, Aminuddin Khan, Jamal Khan Mandokhail, Muhammad Ali Mazhar, Ayesha Malik, Athar Minallah, Syed Hasan Azhar Rizvi, Shahid Waheed, Irfan Saadat Khan, and Naeem Akhtar Afghan.


The people did not vote for an independent candidate, but they voted for him who was supported by a party. Added, it was the right of the people, they voted for PTI :Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail


The PTI candidates had joined Sunni Ittehad Council after winning 8 February general elections as PTI's electoral symbol 'bat' was taken from it.


Correcting errors could allow the allocation of seats to PTI: Justice Athar Minallah


We had filed an application in the Election Commission to claim our legal right regarding the specific seats, but the Election Commission refused to give it to us. And distributes our reserved seats among other parties. According to Article 51 of the Constitution, no party is entitled to more than the seats it has won. These reserved seats are our right. We hope the Supreme Court will give us our reserved seats according to the constitution: Barrister Gohar Ali Khan


Supreme Court has adjourned the full court hearing of reserved seats until 4 June.
